Margaret Anne (Mull) Stewart
October 19th, 1935 - August 15th, 2025
Margaret "Maggie" Stewart was born in Rudd, Iowa. She was raised a farm kid, and as she told it, from the time she was a tiny girl loved nothing better than to be dad's helper as he did the farm chores. As a young woman, she chose to study nursing at a South Dakota college. There she met the love of her life, Howard "Doodle" Stewart. They were married right after their graduation (for which Maggie served as the class valedictorian), and not long afterward, moved back to the place Doodle had been born and raised - the Colville Reservation.
Maggie and Doodle went on to raise three beloved boys of their own...while more than a few neighbor kids came to regard her as a "bonus mom" as well.
Maggie was known to her family and friends throughout her life as a kind, funny, hardworking, trustworthy, generous, creative, whip-smart, curious, and loving human being. And true to form, she stayed informed about the world, cared about the joys and sorrows of others, and enjoyed learning new things right up to the last day of her life.
Maggie was proud of the work she did at the Nespelem Post Office for many years. With some help from friends along the way, over time she also taught herself to become an excellent potter, beading artist, seamstress, and porcelain doll maker. She and Doodle were well known for the drums they designed and made together. She enjoyed writing too, whether short stories about the family, or for the Senior Center newsletter. After retiring, she was an active office-holder and member of the Senior Center in Grand Coulee Dam for many years, and loved playing mahjong there with her friends.
Maggie was greatly, greatly loved - and will be equally greatly missed.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents Chester Mull and Ruth (Darter) Mull, two infant sisters, her brothers Marvin and Roger Mull, her sister Velma (Mull) Brink, and her husband Doodle Stewart. She is survived by her brother Paul Mull and his wife Verna Mull, her niece Linda Mull Heingold, her son Ronald Stewart and his partner Andrea Moore, her son Michael Stewart and his wife Diana Stewart, and her son Mark Stewart. (And here it must be noted, with gratitude from other family members, that Mark was Maggie's main caregiver for the last several years of her life, as her health and mobility began to flag).
"No fuss" is what Maggie wanted for any memorial event held in her name. So a simple gathering is planned for September 20th at 1:00, to be held at the Banks Lake Bible Church, 25 School Ave., Electric City, WA. No need to bring food or flowers - she asked that you send flowers to a living person you love instead. Just bring yourself and a couple of Maggie stories to share if you are moved to do so.
