Extension resources available through Tribal libraries

(Nespelem) We have partnered with Colville Confederated Tribes Libraries to make it easier for people to access Research-based information for safe food preservation, healthy gardening and for preparing quick freezer meals.

Three books have been placed in each reservation library - Nespelem, Keller, and Inchelium – for people to check out and borrow. The So Easy to Preserve book is the Research-based book that is recommended to use when canning or preserving foods. It contains research-based recipes that will ensure safety in your preserved foods. The Gardening in the Inland Northwest book is written specifically for the east side of Washington state. It has a lot of good information to help people who wish to learn more about planting and growing their own food. The Make it Freeze it book contains recipes and instructions for people to prepare a meal and freeze it for later use. This will allow folks to cook when they have time, freeze the meal, then pull it out, thaw and reheat for a quick dinner on those busy days.

"People always have the option to check these books out through our Colville Reservation WSU Extension office, stated Linda McLean, Director, Colville Reservation WSU Extension. "By partnering with Colville Confederated Tribes Libraries, we are providing options for reservation residents and making it easier for them to access research-based information. This helps cut down on travel across the reservation to access Extension resources."

If you would like more information on this or other Extension programs, please contact Linda McLean, Colville Reservation Extension Director, (509) 634-2305 or ljmclean@wsu.edu . Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination. Evidence of noncompliance may be reported through your local Extension office.
