Brandon Pino launches a three-point jumper off a quick pass out of the key from Bear Vargas-Thomas before the Lancers' Cooper Thomas could block the shot.

Sometimes games are what happen when you had other plans.

Like when Raider Head Coach Ed Wolfe wanted to tie up the Liberty Lancers Saturday with an aggressive man-to-man defense but then realized the refs were calling the game fair but "tight," he said. Too many early fouls changed the strategy against the disciplined and well-coached Lancers, Wolfe said.

No matter. The boys from Spangle still fell to Lake Roosevelt by 18 points, 67-49.

Anthony Smith lays it in for two.

The undefeated Raiders now boast a 6-0 league win-loss record, 13-0 overall, atop the Central Washington 2B League, with Liberty Bell (5-0, 9-2) their closest competitor.

The Raiders are now ranked second in the state by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association's Ranked Percentage Index, one tool for seeding into state tournaments.

Lake Roosevelt's RPI is 0.7142. Napavine's is 0.7169.

More importantly, Wolfe can sub out players from a deep bench, and he does, encouraging team play and honing their rhythm in a tempo chosen to confound the right opponent.

The undefeated Raiders beat Oroville 68-42 Friday night in Oroville, then last night took down the Bears in Brewster for a second time this season, 79-62.
