Season greeted with enthusiasm

Events for or featuring kids marked the week before Christmas, with a school pre-holiday musical event kicking off a mood of celebration Friday that packed the Lake Roosevelt gym with a "mind-blowing" number of adults, according to the emcee, Jess Tufts.

That spirit of community support seemed to carry through the weekend, with Santa hearing children's Christmas wishes in at least three venues in town on Saturday - at the Moose Lodge's annual party, at Les Schwab Tire Center, and at a new "Winterfest" event sponsored by the chamber of commerce.

The Moose Lodge served breakfast and a cake walk to a big roomful of kids, who won all the cakes people all over town had baked for the cakewalk.

At the first Winterfest, held in the old middle school gym, more than a couple hundred kids depleted the supply of 200 gift bags, and each table of volunteers supplying crafts and activities ran out of supplies by 3:30, an hour-and-a-half early.

"It was a great turnout for the first year," commented Amanda Davis, who organized the event and said she was making notes for improvements next year.
