It’s football time and I am getting confused.

Between time taken up by penalties and replays, plus ads, it’s getting tough to watch games.

There are five- and 10-minute stretches where nothing is happening except poorly conceived ads and avoidable penalties.

With all the talent in the country, you would think at least some ads would show some creativity.

The penalties show me that there isn’t a lot of fine tuning going on in football programs.

Upping test scores

It’s time for parents and townspeople to take more of an interest in our schools.

The tendency is to throw someone under the bus and then go about our business.

There’s no room under the bus for school officials, teachers or staff; it’s crowded with parents.

Things won’t change until parents do their part in being there for their kids. Parents should keep track of the  subject matter their kids are studying and go over material with their students.

Read to them. Better yet, have them read to you.

For those who don’t have kids in school, there’s work to be done.

Tutor a student who is having trouble. School officials can line you up with a student who is having trouble. The rewards are unbelievable.

The schools are everybody’s opportunity.

I tutored two students one year and the rewards were great.

How cheap are the rich?

I remember when the country would turn out a millionaire or two, but now it’s billionaires.

What is puzzling is what these people actually do.

You would think that the very rich would try to give a little back.

There are a lot of places in our society where a little help would make a difference.

It’s the average Joe who supports those entertaining.

If you don’t believe this, try buying a pair of tickets to a football game or a concert. Riches through high ticket prices.
