LR closet challenge to launch clothing drive with spirit

How does that shirt hanging in your closet — that one (or five) you haven’t worn for a long time — fit in with high school spirit?

Believe it or not, a week of school-spirit activities in October will include a clothing drive at Lake Roosevelt Jr/Sr High School that the community can participate in — either with donations or usage of what gets collected.

The “LR Closet” is an intra-class competition to see which class can gather the most donations during Spirit Week, which will culminate in the annual homecoming football game Friday, Oct . 6.

Madelynn Carman, the Associated Student Body’s social chair and the sophomore class representative, said Tuesday that they’re hoping for community participation.

“I’m hoping we get all different types of clothing,” Carman said.

People will be able to donate all kinds of good, clean, clothing that is still very usable. Carman said a collecting area will include baskets in which items can be donated — one each for the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes. Class members might hit you up in the community, too, for items of all types and for all ages that are still very wearable.

They’ll take a count at the end of the week, and the class that collects the most items wins this spirit week competition.

Still unknown on Tuesday is just where the baskets will be, but by sprit week, they’ll probably be either in the gym or the HUB, Carman said.

Just think — deciding by that time what you can part with from your closet will be a real spirit booster.
