Eight Lake Roosevelt athletes qualified and competed in the 2B District 6 Championship Track and Field meet in Oroville last Wednesday.

Logan Marconi placed second in the 800-meter run and is moving on to the state track and field championships in Yakima this week. He will run a preliminary race on Friday, May 26 at 2 p.m. Finals in that event will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Zaepfel Stadium at Eisenhower High School in Yakima, the new location for the state meet.

“It (Logan’s 800m run) was one of the most exciting races of the meet, almost identical to last week’s League meet finish,” LR Head Coach Lori Adkins said. “This time, the boys pushed each other to PR times with less than a tenth of a second separating them at the tape.”

Adkins said LR athletes competed hard at the district meet, where only two spots were available in each event to move on to state.

“Numbers allotted from our district to the state meet were low this year making it extremely hard to move on,” she said.

Raider John Cooley came up as an alternate, placing third in the 300-meter hurdles.

“He missed out by less than one-half second from moving on,” Adkins noted. “It was an impressive effort considering John started this event very late in the season.”

Other Raider highlights from the event:

- Madelynn Carmen PR’d in the 400.

- Raeley Portch double PR’d in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles events.

- Carly Neddo PR’d in the discus event.
