LR T&F athletes change it up at Tonasket, Peshastin and place well

Raider runners, throwers and jumpers scored highly at the Tonasket Small School Meet April 25, then applied themselves at the Rieke Invitational on Friday, placing well among 15 schools.

At Tonasket, where just four schools competed, Head Coach Lori Adkins said, “athletes were able to try some new events … which was really fun. In the high jump we had five jumpers total.”

That dynamic added a lot to the team points on the boys’ and girls’ sides, Adkins noted.

Logan Marconi took first place in the 800-meter race, setting a personal record in two minutes, 10.38 seconds.

Caden Portch took first in the 1600 in 5:07.2.

Those two were joined by Dillan Yazzie and John Cooley in the Lake Roosevelt relay team to take second in the 4x400 in 3:57.33.

Cooley also took second in the 110 hurdles as did William George in the discus.

Zach Towner took third in the shot put.

“Arianna Waters ran the 100m this week, setting a PR mark and placing 8th, Adkins noted.

And Raeley Portch PR’d in three of her four events, upping the girls’ team score, the coach said.

Carley Neddo too second in both the shot and discus and won the javelin event.

Portch and Neddo took third and fourth in the high jump.

Friday’s meet in Peshastin provided stiffer competition among 15 schools at the Rieke Invitational, and several Raiders were spurred on to set PRs and place for LR.

“Zach Towner made it to finals in javelin, and William George in shot,” Adkins noted. “Only the top seven athletes made it to finals, earning them three more attempts.”

“Later in the meet, (Caden) Portch had the opportunity to compete against 1A Toppenish runners who lead their district in the 800.

Portch placed fourth as a result, setting a new PR.

LR’s throwers competed among 26 shot putters and 25 javelin competitors.

“Our throwers had an exceptional meet,” Adkins said.

The Raiders head to Royal City Friday, May 5, for the Ron Vanderholm Invite, last regular season meet before the qualifiers begin.
