The Triple Fish Challenge fishing tournament added a big new feature Friday, inviting kids from anywhere in the community to come down and catch big fish from a pen.
We're not talking about a little tank, or even a big one. These folks built a net pen between docks and called in Pacific Seafood, which happily donated 250 very good sized rainbow trout.
Luckily, Lake Roosevelt School got out at 1 p.m..
"It wasn't long after that that you could hear kids squealing every minute, it seemed like," said Danielle Florenzen, of Pacific Seafood, whose husband Adam is on the board of Reel Recreation, the group formed to promote this kind of fun.
The Friday addition was a huge success, said the group's president, Nic Alexander, who, along with several friends, took over running the Triple Fish Challenge several years ago.
One thing led to another, ideas hatched, beers opened, and a full-blown non-profit emerged.
Alexander and several others expect the event to continue to grow.
