Dalton appointed to city council

The Grand Coulee City Council appointed Ruth Dalton Tuesday night to the council position left vacant by the death of then-councilmember Mike Horne last year.

Dalton, retired from Coulee Dam Credit Union, was appointed by unanimous council vote, sworn in, and took her seat at the table last night.

Mayor Paul Townsend appointed her to the public safety committee, the joint wastewater treatment plant board with Electric City, and a committee that oversees the facilities at city hall and the library. Those are relatively less complex than some other assignments, he said, and would allow her to get her “feet wet.”

Dalton took her seat just in time to hear from developers proposing a possible solution to a disagreement with the city and learn of a lengthy “shoreline management plan” review underway, confirming what other council members had just stated during the interview process: “It’s a learning experience.”

Dalton was considered along with two other candidates — Mark Nash and Kerri Kruis. They were both encouraged to consider the position again when elections come up later this year.

Dalton will serve out the unexpired term for the seat, then run again for it.
