Fools will ruin our state

Looks like our lawmakers and Department of Ecology have decided not to raise our gas tax 46 cents per gallon at this time. Instead, they are planning to have the businesses pay a CO2 (carbon) tax. It will no doubt put some small businesses out of business, but as usual they don’t care. This all falls under the Climate Commitment Act, which was passed on April 24, 2021. It was quickly signed into law by our Governor Inslee, who wants to be like Al Gore. The fools on the other side of the mountains want to mirror California. I’ve got an idea for them, move there please. You will slowly ruin our state, just like they have done to California. Al Gore said in 2009 the polar ice caps would be gone in 5 to 7 years; didn’t happen. In 2006 he said the sea levels would rise by 20 feet in the near future; didn’t happen. From 1993 to 2021 the sea level has ticked up by 3.8 inches. It will take 1100 years to reach 20 feet.

The scientists in our country have recently lied to us all about Covid. If you got vaccinated you wouldn’t get Covid. We were told a mask wouldn’t protect you, then it would protect you. Other types of drugs would not help you if you got Covid. All not true. I don’t trust our scientists any more on global warming than I do on Covid. I think it pays to be at least skeptical. I’m all in favor of alternative fuels, but we need to have a little bit of common sense about how we go about it. Our politicians have no sense, and definitely no common sense. They always want more so they can spend more.

There is a good chance the North/South Freeway in Spokane won’t get more funding until 2027, but I’m sure road construction will continue on the other side of the mountains.

Jim Catlow

[Editor’s note: Lawmakers did not pass a 46-cent gas tax, a figure that came from an impact estimate by the Washington Research Council, a free-market policy group. Ecology disputes their analysis.]
