Many of the young girls on LR’s girls’ wrestling team got their first taste of a high school mat at Eastmont Dec. 3, where they wrestled in the Lady Cat Classic.

Junior Arianna Waters is the oldest member of the team, Coach Justus Caudell said. “High school is a little faster and a little more intense, and as the day went you could see the girls rising to that level.”

A “very undersized” eighth-grader, Phenyx Marchand, won two and lost two at the 170-pound bracket, and Waters took third at 155.

Ayamae Duclos won one and lost one to place second in a 170-pound freshman bracket, and AJ Cannon took fourth in among the freshmen 155 pounders.

Cora Nicholson lost two tough matches at 140.

They’ll wrestle in Colfax Thursday, then Saturday in Oroville.
