A new bishopric is serving in the Coulee Dam Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Al Frank, of Electric City, is the new bishop, with counselors Douglas M. Lockard, also of Electric City, and Brad Okamoto, of Coulee City.

President Kyle Bair of the Ephrata Washington Stake presided at the proceedings Dec. 11, held at the Latter-day Saint chapel in Coulee Dam. Other leaders and local members of the church were also present.

Bishop Frank replaces Dan Foster, who served as bishop of the Coulee Dam Ward since 2017.

A bishop and his counselors are unpaid volunteer ministers and each serves 15-30 hours per week, typically for a period of five years. Bishoprics are primarily responsible for ensuring that the spiritual and temporal needs of the congregation are met.

The Coulee Dam Ward boundaries include Nespelem, Elmer City, Coulee Dam, Grand Coulee, Electric City, Coulee City, Wilbur, Almira, and Hartline.

Members of the church and friends meet together frequently for spiritual instruction and social enrichment. Church services in the Coulee Dam Ward are held 10 a.m. to noon every Sunday at 806 Spruce Street, Coulee Dam. Visitors are welcome to attend Sabbath Day meetings and weekday activities.
