The Lake Roosevelt Raiders football team met the top-ranked Okanogan Bulldogs on the gridiron on Oct. 14 and lost by a high point margin that doesn't capture how close the game really was.

Okanogan scored first on a 35-yard touchdown run from Taggert Grooms to put the Bulldogs up 7-0 in the first quarter.

LR answered when Chase Marchand caught a 33-yard, Brit Egbert pass to put the Raiders in good scoring position, as Marchand next caught Egmert's 17-yard toss for the touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.

The game remained tied until the final minutes of the second quarter.

A Raider penalty made a first down difficult, and Okanogan intercepted a Raider pass to put them in scoring position, with Grooms again getting them the touchdown and the half ending with a 14-7 Bulldog lead.

In the second half, the Raiders couldn't find their momentum while Okanogan piled on four more touchdowns to end the game 42-7.

LR now has a 5-2 win-loss record, while Okanogan is undefeated at 7-0.

The Raiders are now ranked eighth in the state by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association; Okanogan is ranked first.

Raiders Ivan Alejandre (21) and Brit Egbert (11) tackle a Bulldog runner.

The Raiders are scheduled to play in Oroville against the winless, 0-6 Hornets on Friday, Oct. 21, beginning earlier than usual, at 4 p.m.
