Police

10/4 - Police provided helpful advice to a Grand Coulee  woman in retrieving her truck from her ex-boyfriend in Omak.

- A vehicle reportedly “clipped” a deer at SR-174 and Spokane Way. Police didn’t see any evidence of a collision and were unable to reach the registered owner of the vehicle that reportedly hit the deer, nor of the reporting party. Police were unable to determine if an accident had actually occurred.

- About $500 worth of damage was done to a rear fender and taillight of a car parked at Safeway in a hit and run. Police received a description of the car, and it’s possible the license plate was captured on a security camera.

10/6 - Someone reported suspicious people stealing an electric wheelchair and pounding on the door of a Main Street business. Police suspected it was a father and son they had spoken to earlier at Safeway when they had been blocking pedestrian traffic while eating sandwiches. They are known to panhandle in the area sometimes. One of the men is known to use a wheelchair, but also to walk normally at other times. Police spoke to the men on Main Street. They had managed to obtain $62, enough to stay at a local motel, but were turned away at the front desk. Because of limited resources for transient people in the area, police assisted them towards a bus stop on Midway Avenue.

10/12 - A man told police that his girlfriend’s ex had thrown a rock, damaging his windshield while she was driving away from him on SR-174. The man said there was a court protection order between his girlfriend and her ex, but police didn’t find one when they looked it up.

10/13 - An insurance company asked for a police report on a 2020 incident that involved about $5,600 in theft from a Grand Avenue residence, including a baseboard heating unit, an air conditioner, toilet, cabinet knobs, refrigerator, dishwasher, and more. Police provided the report.

10/15 - A man reported being flipped off at Four Corners by occupants of a vehicle that then parked near North Dam and were believed to be under the influence of alcohol. Police found the vehicle and the occupants were indeed under the influence. The driver was charged with being in control of a motor vehicle while under the influence. He was taken home by his father.

10/16 - Police observed three raccoons making noise on Spokane Way.

10/3 - Two female students at Lake Roosevelt were arrested and taken to the police station after reportedly firing an airsoft pistol in the cafeteria. The girls laughed as if it was no big deal, and didn’t answer police when asked why they had brought the gun to school. The juvenile detention center in Okanogan County wouldn’t book the girls on the charge of having a dangerous weapon on school grounds. Police gave one girl and her father a ride home to Nespelem, and a parent picked up the other girl. Police took possession of the gun.

10/5 - Two students were caught with marijuana at Lake Roosevelt. Police collected the marijuana and associated smoking devices.

10/8 - A Coulee Dam officer stood by and assisted Grand Coulee Police in the arrest of a man on Mead Avenue in Coulee Dam whom police had probable cause to arrest for trespassing. The man was released after being cited.

- A woman who works for a fish and chips truck complained that a man was harassing her employees while parked near Mead Avenue. The man was said to be angry about the city’s picnic table not being cleaned and not having access to the bathroom. Police told him the food truck wasn’t responsible for the bathrooms, which the city chose to close because of vandalism issues. The man was banned from the food truck wherever it is parked.

10/9 - A juvenile caller from Nevada falsely reported that police needed to respond to Birch Street where a boy was supposedly overdosing on pills. The boy was fine, playing video games, and it was likely a prank call. Police canceled an ambulance. There wasn’t enough information on the caller to file a charge of a false claim.

- Police helped fire department personnel search for someone near North Dam and Pleasant Valley Road who could be heard from Coulee Playland calling for help. No one was found. Security Control said they would view their cameras for anyone in distress.

10/10 - A man was arrested and taken to jail on a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of tools for vehicle theft. The man was reported as suspicious when seen near Jess Ford with a flashlight. Police found him parked at the post office. The man said he purchased the vehicle, reported stolen out of Everett. The man also had a screwdriver used to start the vehicle, a Chevy truck, and a collection of shaved keys from different makes of cars. He also had a duffle bag of 54 cell phones and tablets, but those devices aren’t connected to any reported crimes. Police spoke to the registered owner of the vehicle, who was instructed on how to retrieve it.

- After an Aspen Street resident complained about theft of garbage, police explained that once garbage is thrown out in their can, it is fair game for pickup. Police further advised to shred personal information before throwing it away.

- People were reported as staying in a fenced-off tunnel near Mead Way. Items in the tunnel included a folding bed, cases of water, and matches from a local motel. Police were told who was suspected of being the ones in the tunnel, a father and son. Police found them at the casino and told them to clean their stuff out of the tunnel or they would be arrested. They walked towards the tunnel, and while police were making phone calls, decided to do something else. Nothing had been moved, and police believe they have left town.

10/16 - A white Chevy pickup and a red Dodge Charger got into a collision at River Drive and Roosevelt Way. The man driving the pickup said he was driving too tired, and while crossing the bridge, fell asleep, hit a bump, and didn’t remember anything else leading up to the collision. There was no reason to believe he was under the influence of any substance.
