Singer/songwriter Michele Malone is one of 18 artists to take the stage at Sunbanks Lake Resort for festival that starts Thursday night. This publicity shot is for Malone's new album, 1977. She plays Sunday.

Sunbanks Lake Resort's "Blues & Roots Festival" begins Thursday night and runs through the weekend, and locals get a discount to enjoy the music.

In the resort's third and final music festival of the year, the tunes aren't limited to "blues" in the strictest sense of the term, although one of the Pacific Northwest's favorite blues rocker bands, Too Slim and the Taildraggers, will top off the show Sunday night.

Before the Taildraggers take over the stage, the weekend will be filled with music from 17 other bands, beginning on Thursday night at 7:30.

The Michele Malone Duo, who will play at 1 p.m. on Sunday, released an album this year titled "1977," which harkens back to the vibe of that era when singer-songwriter style rock and roll dominated the airwaves and Malone first picked up a guitar.

Her sound could be compared to Fleetwood Mac, Linda Ronstadt, and Tom Petty, and although it is bluesy, other American elements to her sound such as rock and country are evident.

She has been reviewed by Rolling Stone and Guitar World among other notable publications.

Her new album "1977" can be streamed online at https://promo.theorchard.com/xEGYNaT8vBZ7DZ1veZn7.

The festival kicks off on Thursday Sept. 8, at 7:30 p.m. with Dustin Lafferty, followed by Hambone Wilson at 8:45 and Sheri & Da Boyz at 10:15.

On Friday, Sept. 9, Joe Cook Blues Band plays at 5 p.m .; Big Al & the Heavyweights at 6:30 .; Andy T & Alabama Mike at 8:30; and Monster Road at 10:30.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, Maddy Dullum plays at 1 p.m .; Stacy Jones Band at 2:30; Eric's Maine Connection at 4 ; Wasteland Kings at 5:30; Junkyard Jane's 25th at 7; The Delgado Brothers at 9; and Harlis Sweetwater plays at 11.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, Michelle Malone Duo plays at 1 p.m .; The Sugar Roots at 2:30 ; Red House at 4:30; then Too Slim & the Taildraggers at 6:30.

At the resort, day passes can be bought at the gate by locals for $35, or $50 for everyone else, while four day passes cost $100 for locals, $160 for everyone else.

Locals can use a form of ID or mail that shows they are from the Coulee area.
