In 1974 most congressional Republicans were patriots, forcing then-President Richard Nixon to resign when he tried to overthrow our democracy. Alarmingly, most current congressional Republicans are unpatriotic cowards, caving to former president Donald Trump’s attempt to do likewise.

There’s good reason Trump trusted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s word over our own US intelligence: they’re very similar—both ruthless liars craving power.

Fortunately, a few current congressional Republicans want to save our democracy. Especially powerful is Republican US Representative Liz Cheney, my No. 1 hero for over a year. I seldom agree with her policy-wise, but she’s maximally dedicated to saving our democracy from Trump and his enablers.

Unfortunately, our own Republican US Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers is one of the worst Trump loyalists, the extreme opposite of Cheney. McMorris Rodgers is Washington state’s only US Representative of either party not voting to impeach Trump after the January 6, 2021 US Capitol insurrection and had planned to oppose certification of President Joe Biden that day; she still won’t deny the “Big Lie” (that Trump won), recently avoiding the question with two minutes of gobble-de-gook at her town hall meeting. Washington state’s other two Republican US Representatives, Jaime Herrera Beutler and Dan Newhouse, both voted to impeach Trump.

Fortunately, two excellent Democrats who love our country and its democratic principles, Natasha Hill and Ann Marie Danimus, oppose McMorris Rodgers’ re-election.

Vote Hill or Danimus in our August 2 Primary Election and November 8 General Election!
