A local organization says it has received a grant of $1 million to continue its work in the home lending area.

Northwest Native Development Fund, in Coulee Dam, will get the grant from the U.S. Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund.

The grant will allow NNDF to further its goal of helping individuals build assets and “more specifically grow our home lending efforts,” a press release on the matter states.

The local CDFI does this by providing financial and technical assistance services for those who may not qualify for other sources of funding.

“For too long individuals who purchased manufactured homes have been penalized with higher interest rates or shorter more burdensome terms. The NNDF has chosen to fight such discriminatory practices by providing equitable financing at standard home lending terms,” the release continues.

“We are truly grateful for the CDFI Fund award this year,” said Ted Piccolo, NNDF’s executive director. “This comes at a time when there is truly a housing crisis in our region. This will allow the NNDF just one more tool for opening the spigot of support to help with the crisis.”
