Election results so far listed for local area races

With an estimated 300 ballots left to count before another vote count update Monday, incumbents in local elections still appear to be keeping their seats, according to Grant County’s website, which also states that 38.41% of the county’s voters turned out.

In the race for Grand Coulee Council Position #1, Ben Hughes leads 92 votes to 58 over Tracey Wright, with there additionally being 40 votes for write-in candidates.

For Grand Coulee Council Position #2, incumbent Tom Poplawski leads 133 votes to 52 over challenger Cameron Whitney, with there additionally being four write-in votes.

In Electric City,  incumbent Donald Redfield leads 234- 87 votes over Birdie Hensley for Council Position #1. There were also six write-in votes.

In the race for Grand Coulee Dam School District’s School Director #2, which spans multiple counties, incumbent Ken “Butch” Stanger leads 561-352 over challenger Buffy Nicholson. There are 20 write-in votes.

Stanger leads 313-205 in Grant County, 55-37 in Lincoln County, 135-75 in Okanogan County, and 58-35 in Douglas County.

In Okanogan County, an estimated 969 ballots remain left to count, with the next count update coming today, Nov. 10, according to their website which also states that 35.36% of the county’s voters turned out.

In the Nespelem School District, incumbent Nancy Armstrong-Montes leads 61-27 over challenger Val Vargas-Thomas for Board Position #5.

Final election results are certified on Nov. 23.

An employee from Grant County’s elections department told The Star that further information on write-in candidate results would be available after certification, but only for the write-in candidates that actually filed for election.

Unopposed races

Sometimes people win a contest because they’re the only one who entered.

Other positions up for election in the local area had candidates running unopposed, or in some instances, no candidates at all had filed.

Incumbent James Keene, running for the Port Commissioner #1 position at Grant County Port District #7 received 463 votes, with there additionally being seven write-in votes.

Tristan Goss, running for Coulee Area Parks And Recreation District Commissioner Position #4, received 810 votes across Grant, Okanogan, Lincoln, and Douglas counties, with an additional 28 votes for write-in candidates.

Incumbent Clea Pryor, running for the Commissioner #2 position in Grant County Hospital District 6, received 926 votes across Grant, Okanogan, Lincoln, and Douglas counties, with an additional 14 votes cast for write-in candidates.

In the Grand Coulee Dam School District, running for the School Director #1 position, Shannon Claire-Nicholson received 724 votes across the four counties, with there additionally being 31 votes cast for write-in candidates; and Richard Black, running for School Director #5, received 793 votes. Twenty-five votes were also cast for write-ins.

In Coulee Dam, incumbent Mayor Bob Poch received 149 votes across Douglas and Okanogan counties, with another eight for write-ins; in council position #2, incumbent Merv Schmidt received 155 votes, with three write-ins; and position #4 incumbent Larry Hall also received 155 votes to three write-ins.

In Electric City, incumbent Mayor Diane Kohout received 273 votes. Voters wrote in 17. Incumbent Bob Rupe, running for Council Member #2, received 253 votes, with there also being 14 write-ins.

In Grand Coulee, incumbent Mike Horne, running for Council Member #4, received 145 votes. There were six write-ins. 

In the Nespelem School District, running for the District 3 Director position, Jolene Marchand received 78 votes. There were four write-ins. Jarae Cate received 78 votes for District 4 Director At Large, with there being one write-in.

In Grant County Fire District #14, Deborah Nelson received 51 votes, with there also being one write-in.

In Okanogan Fire District #2, running for Commissioner Position #2, incumbent Shelly Black received 39 votes, with there also being two write-ins.

In Lincoln County Fire District #9, incumbent Ron Rosenberg running for Commissioner #2, received 96 votes. There was one write-in.
