Birdie Hensley would like to be back on the Electric City council after just a couple of years being off it.

Hensley has served six years total on the council, most recently finishing a four-year term in 2019, which she lost to Bob Rupe in that year's election.

Having lived in Electric City for 22 years, Hensley said in an email to The Star that she believes, "If you do not take an active part in city council you do not have any idea what is going on in the community."

She said she would like to see "equal enforcement to all ordinances in Electric City," and "redoing the city's dangerous dog ordinance."

She sees working with the city's planning committee as a solution to some of the city's problems.

She said that the pathway project being developed between Electric City and Grand Coulee is a "good idea but some changes are needed." She said the speed limit needs to be looked at not just for that area but for all of the area, from Electric City to Coulee Dam.

Hensley is a member of the Grand Coulee Dam Lions, is on the Grant County Museum Board, and is active with the Grand Coulee Dam Senior Center.

She also manages the Coulee Pioneer Museum on Coulee Boulevard in Electric City.

She is running for Council Position #1 against Donald Redfield in the Nov. 2 election.
