Harvest Fest cancelled, Run The Dam still on

Harvest Fest has been cancelled due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The board of directors of the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce called a special meeting Sept. 1 to make the decision on the seasonal festival, originally planned for Sept. 18-19, Chamber Executive Director Rachelle Haven said.

“The decision was not made lightly,” she said.  “While we know that everyone wants to get back to business as usual and in person events again, we felt, with the surge of COVID cases in the community, it would not be responsible of us to host an event at this time. We want our businesses to be able to stay open without restrictions and we will always continue to advocate for that. We felt that it is in the best interest of the community and its members during these uncertain times.”

The Run The Dam event scheduled for Sept. 18 is still a go.

More information and registration for that event is available at http://www.runthedam.com .

The local chamber is not alone in the decision to cancel its fall festival, which it has been trying to build for several years.

The Downtown Moses Lake Association canceled their Sip and Stroll wine tasting event, also set for Sept. 18 for the same reasons. They cited high caseloads at local hospitals and high incidence rates of Covid-19 in the county.
