You may soon be able to bet on sports at Colville Tribal casinos.

After more than a year of negotiations, a tentative agreement has been reached between the state of Washington and tribes within the state regarding authorizing them to offer betting on sporting events.

“The proposed amendment to the existing compact will enable the Colville Tribes to effectively

offer sports betting to its casino patrons,” a press release states. “The agreement is comprehensive, covering a wide range of concerns that include money laundering and integrity of sporting events, but it also respects tribal sovereignty and preserves flexibility for the Tribes.”

Washington residents will not be permitted to bet on local collegiate teams.

The proposed agreement must still receive final approval from the Washington State Gambling

Commission, Gov. Jay Inslee, and the secretary of the Department of the Interior.

More details will be announced in the future, including the date sports betting may commence.

“The Colville Tribes looks forward to inviting patrons to bet on their favorite teams in the near future,” Chairman of the Colville Tribes Rodney Cawston said. “The negotiation process with our State and tribal partners has been very productive as we have worked together to benefit all citizens of this region. This additional revenue stream will support tribal projects throughout the region and ultimately flows back into our local communities.”
