The man in charge of sports in the local school district took on an extra volunteer role Monday night.

Tim Rasmussen stepped into a vacant commissioner spot for the Coulee Area Park and Recreation District on Jan. 20 at a special meeting of the district commissioners.

The spot had been vacant since September, when former commissioner Josh Vega joined the Air Force.

"We've been looking for somebody to fill the shoes," Chairman Kevin Porch said.

Rasmussen, who is the athletic director for the Grand Coulee Dam School District, moved to the area via the Dallas, Texas area about two years ago, although he is originally from Washington, he told commissioners.

"I'm looking for ways to get involved and give back to the community our kids live in," Rasmussen told the board prior to being approved. "I'm excited about the opportunity to jump in on a public committee."

Rasmussen said he has been involved with youth organizations for 15-20 years, both professionally and as a volunteer, and that his life-long involvement with sports ties in well the park district.
