Leonard Ray Simpson Jr. "Chu-Lah-Lush", 41, known to friends and family simply as "Junior" left us all much too soon this last week of December 2019.
He was born Thursday May 4, 1978, in Grand Coulee, Washington, to Leonard Sr. and Gloria Francis-Simpson, and graduated from Lake Roosevelt High School in Coulee Dam, Washington in 1996.
A proud member of the Colville Confederated Tribes and Walahsat 7 Drums, Junior loved his Sweathouse brothers and sisters and his Nez Perce Longhouse Family.
Junior was a talented author who wrote under the pen name of "Windreamer" and enjoyed writing murals.
Most at home in the out-of-doors, Junior enjoyed spending time in the woods whether hunting, fishing or gathering foods.
He enjoyed beading, listening to music as well as being self-taught on and playing the flute which he made himself.
Predeceased by his grandparents Charlie and Cecelia Jo Simpson and Terry and Dora Owhi-Francis; father, Leonard Simpson Sr .; aunties: Barbara Owhi, Lena Wilson and Rita Sherwood and cousin David Wilson; Junior's legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of his mother, Gloria Simpson; brothers: Robert Simpson (Vikky) and Chuck Simpson (LeAnne); the Owhi Family; the Redstar Family; Hamilton-Nason Family; the Gang from 1131 Tilmus and his two 4-footed buddies: "Astro" and "Orbity."
Junior's dressing took place at 1 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2020, at Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee. His interfaith wake and 7-Drums services were held that evening at the Nespelem Community Center in Nespelem, Washington. A sunrise service was held the following morning, Saturday, January 4, 2020, immediately followed by his graveside ceremony at Owhi Family Cemetery in Nespelem.
