Snow was reported on the highway between Davenport and Reardan this morning, as well as on Sherman Pass east of Republic, and the NWS is advising of snow possible at 2,000 feet.

.A cold storm system will bring the potential for heavy snow in

the mountains this weekend. In addition, expect wet, slushy

accumulations above 2000 feet tonight into Sunday morning. Strong

northeast winds will also impact the Idaho Panhandle and

Northeast Mountains resulting in some tree damage and low wind

chills. Backcountry recreationists and hunters should be prepared

for cold and wet weather conditions and bring proper gear. Travel

across backcountry roads may be difficult to impossible.

* WHEN...From 8 PM this evening to 11 AM PDT Sunday.

Washington...Northeast Washington and Southeast Washington.

.DAY ONE AND TWO...TODAY AND SUNDAY

Raw and windy northeast winds will blow across much of north Idaho

and eastern WA today through Sunday. Unsecured items

could be blown around. Tree limbs could break and a few power

outages may result.

The unseasonably cold weather system will bring a chance of snow

over higher terrain of the basin today through Sunday with mainly

minor accumulations but could make travel slippery in the

overnight and early morning hours.

.DAYS THREE THROUGH SEVEN...MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY

Monday morning and especially Tuesday morning widespread killing

frost is expected over most of the area, with only the lowest

elevations near the Columbia River probably safe from this freeze

up.
