Homes in the distance on the south side of Lake Roosevelt are dwarfed by the massive cloud of smoke in the far distance from the Williams Flats Fire on the other side of the lake several miles away Friday night.
A wildfire in the Hellgate Game Preserve on the Colville Reservation has burned about 2,500 acres, pitting firefighters against steep, rocky terrain, and rattlesnakes.
About 45 firefighters are working on the Williams Flats fire some 7 miles southeast of Keller.
