Five Raiders qualify for state for track & field following Friday’s District 5-6 qualifier in Quincy.

At the qualifier, the top five boys and top four girls in each event qualified for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 2019 WIAA 1B, 2B, 1A Track & Field Championship meet in Cheney.

Steven Flowers qualifies to compete in the shot put, discus, 100-meter dash, and the 4x100-meter relay race.

“It’s quite a feat to qualify in four events,” Head Coach Lori Adkins said.

Flowers placed first in the shot-put event, throwing for a distance of 47 feet, 7 inches.

His brother, Josh Flowers, placed third in the same event, throwing 41-3 and qualifying for state.

Steven Flowers placed fourth in the 100-meter race with a time of 11.62 seconds, and fifth in the discus by throwing for a distance of 115-4.

Steven is also part of the 4x100 relay team with Devon Hobrecht, Traey Clark, and Isaiah Derr. They placed fifth in the event with a time of 47.16 seconds.

“It is the second year in a row for the relay to make it to state,” Coach Adkins said. “They showed great patience and persistence to get to this point.”

The track & field state meet will be held at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, with the 100-meter dash being held at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday, May 23.

The next day, Friday, May 24, the 4x100 relay race will be held at 11:55 a.m, and the shot put at 12:30 p.m.

And Saturday, May 25, the discus throw will take place at 12:30.
