The Raider track and field team competed in Bridgeport and Royal City last week, where several Raiders placed or set personal records.

“The Raiders are finishing a tough series of two-meet weeks,” Head Coach Lori Adkins said. “Although it was a hard three weeks, we came out with improved marks which seed us nicely into qualifiers.”

Adkins noted a standout performance at the April 30 Bridgeport meet by Steven Flowers, who placed first in the 100-meter race (11.77 seconds) as well as placing first in the shot-put event (49 feet, 1.5 inches), as well as a personal-best discus throw of 119 feet, six inches.

“The discus team of Flowers, Josh Flowers and Sherwin Vargas came up strong, securing three out of eight places,” Adkins said.

She also highlighted Hannah Wapato, who placed second and fourth respectively in the 3,200- (13:46.92) and 1,600-meter (6:29.89) races.

“Kyona Edmo had a standout day in the 200 [meter race] and 300 [hurdles],” Adkins added. “Kyona competed strongly and came up with PR performances one right after the other.”

Edmo finished the 200 in 30.24 seconds, placing fifth, and the 300 hurdles in 54.81 seconds, placing fourth.

The Raiders competed at Ron Vanderholm Invitational in Royal City on May 3.

Standout performances Adkins pointed out came from Steven Flowers, who placed sixth in the 100 (11.96) seconds); Josh Flowers placing seventh in the shot put (42-7); Kyle Edmo running a PR 1600 “almost breaking five minutes” at 5:0.91; Isaiah Derr placing seventh in the long jump with a PR distance of 18 feet, six inches; Kyona Edmo earning the girls’ team’s “soul point” by placing eighth in the 100 hurdles (19.52) and Reagan Herndon’s PR in the shot put, “continuing to improve her mark” with a distance of 25-6.5.
