The Raiders track and field team last week competed at Peshastin, placing well, and in Wenatchee, where high winds canceled some events and blew others off course.

The Raiders competed with other North Central Washington teams in Peshastin April 23.

“The Raiders shined as a team!” Head Coach Lori Adkins said. “The boys’ team placed second, amassing 155 points by taking many of the eight places available in each event. The girls did the same, placing third and earning 84 points. It was great to see the Raiders working together trying to earn those points!”

Entiat was the only team with more points than the LR boys, with 170. Cascade and Entiat scored higher than the girls with 193 and 168 points respectively.

LR had numerous athletes placing first in their events: Hannah Wapato in both the 1600- and 3200-meter races, Steven Flowers in both the shotput and discus, Sam Wapato in the high jump, and Isaiah Derr in the long jump.

The Raiders then competed at the North Central Washington Invite in Wenatchee on Saturday, where the winds made things a bit difficult.

“We took a skeleton crew to Wenatchee, but they managed to earn points competing against powerful 1A, 2A and 4A … schools,” Adkins said. “Wind gusts during the meet were predicted to be 30 mph and were that and more. The high-jump pits actually blew away right in the middle of competition! Although the girls’ pole vault competition completed, the boys was canceled.”

Adkins noted that Derr earned fifth place in the 300-meter hurdles event; Kyle Edmo doubled in seventh place in the 1600- and 800-meter races; and that Kyona Edmo finished ninth in the 300-meter hurdles.
