The Raiders wrestling crew won the Davenport Invitational on Saturday, defeating 14 other teams with a total of 177 points.

Medical Lake Gold came in second in the tournament with 157 points.

Five Raiders took first place at the tournament, including Colton Jackson wrestling in the 106-pound bracket, David Crowe wrestling at 138, Tony Nichols at 152, Brandon Long at 195, and Steven Flowers at 220.

Winning second place were Robert Thomas at 120 pounds, Kaleb Horn at 145, and Connor Klingenberg at 220.

Also placing at the tournament were Tony Marchand, who took third at 160; Dylan Armstrong, fourth at 113; and Taylor Circle, fourth at 138.

Female wrestler Ida Sue won her match at the event as well.

“We had a good day; we won the tournament,” remarked Head Coach Steve Hood. “It was a good start for us. As is always the case at this point in the season, you see lots of great performances and also room for improvement.”

Hood highlighted Armstrong’s victory as notable for it being his first as a high school wrestler. He also noted Long’s first-place win as significant as his first time placing first.

Nichols came from behind to win his first-place victory in the third round of the final match at 152. He defeated Baugher from Oroville 6-4 in the final match.

Flowers went against teammate Brandon Long in the final match at 220, pinning him in 2 minutes, 10 seconds.

The tournament win followed the Oct. 28 Okanogan Jamboree, where the Raiders competed with wrestlers from Okanogan, Chelan, Omak, Brewster-Pateros, Tonasket, and Liberty Bell.

They won 30 of 47 matches in their first chance to get out and compete against non-teammates.

The jamboree doesn’t count toward the team’s record, nor the individual wrestlers’ records.

They are wrestling today at home in Coulee Dam at 6 p.m. in the LR Mix & Match with opponents from Okanogan, Wilbur-Creston-Keller, and Davenport.

On Dec. 8, the Raiders wrestle at the Connell Invite, starting at 10 a.m. They’ll compete Dec. 12, at the Oroville Mixer starting at 6 p.m.
