The Lady Raiders chalked up two wins last week on the Grand Coulee soccer field: one against Oroville, and one against Pateros.

The Lady Raiders defeated the Oroville Lady Hornets Oct. 16 with a score of 6-1 in an eight-on-eight game that allowed the girls to mix things up.

"It was a fun game to watch with lots of great passing," said Head Coach Casey Moore. "With only eight players on the field, they were forced to stay spread out, and many players had the opportunity to play different positions."

She noted that Bryn Chaffee played well at sweeper and that Ravena Pakootas, who usually plays sweeper, got to play midfield and took two attempted shots.

Laelah Pakootas usually plays goalie, but played forward and made four solid attempts on goal. Senior Chelsea Timentwa made four solid saves, including two indirect free kicks, the coach noted.

Sadie Trotter, a freshman, scored her first goals of the season in the game, one at the beginning of the first half and again in the second half. And Maddie Toulou scored four goals.

On Oct. 18, Senior Night, the Lady Raiders continued with their winning momentum, defeating Pateros 10-2.

"We could not have asked for a better senior night," Moore said. "It began with Darnelle Sam honoring our seniors with a song. The girls thanked their families and then ended up playing their best overall game."

Maddie Toulou scored four goals for LR, Sadie Trotter scored two, and several players scored their first goals of the season: Ida Sue Dick, Laelah Pakootas, Ravena Pakootas and Chelsea Timentwa.

"Chelsea played goalie the first half and only allowed one goal," Moore said. "Pateros was able to get another score in the second half as well."

The Lady Raiders played yesterday against Liberty Bell, results of which will be reported in next week's Star.

The Lady Raiders currently have a 5-8 overall win-loss record. They will compete in the first round of playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 27, with the time and place to be decided based on results of Tuesday's games.
