The Lady Raiders competed in two games and a jamboree in the past week, winning both games and having fun competition at the jamboree.

The ladies opened their season by defeating Bridgeport on the road three games to two.

"I decided to try out various options," said Head Coach Kasey Garvin. "We ran different hitting tempos, alternative line-ups, and offenses. I took the opportunity to experiment during our first non-league match."

The first eight games of the season are "non-league," meaning they don't count towards the league record, but do count towards the overall record, which can be used to determine league rankings when teams' league records are tied.

"My two veteran starters, Sean Garvin and Addison Hansen, had a great performance, combining for 11 aces and 16 kills for the evening," Coach Garvin said.

Sean Garvin finished the evening with three aces, nine kills, 21 assists, and four blocks. Hansen finished with eight aces, seven kills, one block assist, and one dig.

On Sept. 7 in Coulee Dam, the Lady Raiders defeated Manson in three sets, winning each set by narrow margins: 25-23, 25-23, and 25-22.

"Manson came at us point for point," Garvin said. "My girls were able to finish every set with a win."

Rylee Pitner, Chasity Williams, and Emily Abel stood out at the serving line with a 100-percent average.

Also standing out in the game were Sean Garvin, with nine kills, four aces, and 15 assists; Megan Abel, with 11 aces; and Addison Hansen, with six kills.

At the Republic Jamboree on Friday, the Lady Raiders competed against Republic, Curlew, and Tonasket. A jamboree doesn't affect a team's standings, but is rather just a get-together of teams to play volleyball.

"You play each team that participates in a style that helps everyone work on rotations and substitutions that you normally don't get in a non-league or league match," Garvin explained.

Playing two sets against each team, the Lady Raiders split sets with Republic and Tonasket and defeated Curlew in both sets.

The Lady Raiders played in Waterville yesterday, the results of which will be in next week's Star.

They will host the Oroville Lady Hornets on Thursday, Sept. 14, in Coulee Dam with the junior varsity team scheduled to start things off at 5:30 p.m.
