State park adding 30 campsites

Steamboat Rock State Park is on the grow.
Already one of the largest and most popular state parks, a project is underway to add 30 more campsites.
When it's finished, 193 of the park's camp sites will be in the main camping area; another 12 are boat sites, only reachable by water.
The project, bid at $2.5 million, had to be re-bid since the original low bid of over $3.1 million was above the state park budget.
The successful bidder and general contractor is Wesslen Construction, of Spokane.
Park Ranger Jeremy Jalali estimated the work will be finished by May and campers will be able to occupy the spaces by July.
Jalali said that this project will be similar to the last one, with the 30 sites having concrete pads with plantings. "We will stub in utilities for some more cabins, but they will be constructed later," he said.
Currently, Copenhaver Construction, of Creston, is clearing and grading the site.
Steamboat Rock State Park is spread over 3,552 acres. Its personnel also manage 44 additional campsites away from the main park.
