"Rumpelstiltskin," a play loved by audiences both young and old, will be performed here March 12, using talent from local schools, and produced by the Missoula Children's Theatre.

Auditions for the various roles were held Monday, March 7, at the Grand Theatre in Grand Coulee.

The play is sponsored locally by the Grand Coulee Dam PTA.

"Rumpelstiltskin" is a fairy tale that originated in Germany and was part of the collection gathered by the Brothers Grimm and published in their collection of "Children's and Household Tales." Researchers have determined that the story of Rumpelstiltskin originated some 4,000 years ago.

Among the roles cast were Rumpelstiltskin, Queen Beatrice, King Whatsat, Villagers, Gnomes, Wizards, Knights, Bees, and Clara, a jester.

The play will feature young actors from kindergarten up to the 12th grade.

Assistant directors were also cast to assist in rehearsals throughout the intense week of practice, after which the play goes on.

Missoula Children's Theatre provides costumes, scenery, props and makeup.

Presentations will be made at 2 and 6 p.m., Saturday, March 12, at the Grand Theatre on Grand Coulee's Main Street.

Price of admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for students.
