Truck drives through window at Safeway

No, Safeway is not now offering drive-through service. A Coulee Dam man, Robert G. Sandine, hit the gas instead of the brake and his Dodge truck jumped the curb, smashed through a handicap sign, over a table where people can sit outdoors, and through a large plate glass window knocking over a display rack inside the store. One clerk said the noise from the broken glass was "frightening" and got the attention of everyone inside the store. Damage to the building was about $5,000 and to the truck, $2,500. No one was injured, and they were able to back the truck out of the store. Here, police officer Chris McClanahan talks with the owner of the truck as he investigates the accident. - Roger Lucas photo
