Four Lake Roosevelt golfers competed for a state berth at last week’s District 5-6 B tournament at Alta Lake, where Quincy Williams, Darin Whiteman, Lucas Bird, and Jonell Denschel learned the meaning of the term “gallery pressure.”

“It was a new experience for all four of our golfers that participated.” Head Coach Steve Files said. “Districts is the only match we play all year in which all teams from our league are represented and the players must deal with real gallery pressure.”

District champs for both boys and girls came from Oroville. For the boys, it was Bryce Glover with a score of 84, and for the girls it was Jordyn Smith with a 104.

None of the Raider golfers qualified for state. Whiteman shot a 111, Bird a 132, Williams a 134, and Denschel a 146.

“All in all, I consider the 2015 LR golf season a great success,” Files said. “We had one of the largest turnouts in our league — 10 players — all underclassmen and new to the squad, finished the season.”

“I had a great group to work with,” Files continued, “coachable, positive, hard-working, and respectful. … I’m already looking forward to next season.”
