Many of us can recall the days of the Service Station, a place where one went to get the gas tank filled, windshield washed, oil checked, among other things, all while one waited in the vehicle and the person at the Service Station performed the service for us. One rarely sees such things today, but we have one right among us. It is Jackson’s Chevron Service at Nespelem! They have Full Service and Self Serve pumps so one has a choice. These fantastic folks, Chick, Denny and Robert Jackson and all their other crew members provide a wide variety of service to their customers: auto/truck repair, full tire service, gas station, propane, snack bar with free coffee, towing service, etc., all with a friendly smile and conversation.

Today was just another day for them, but not for me and my son, who, having gone for a drive on the reservation back roads, had picked the wrong place to turn around. May have looked solid, but didn’t know that under that grass was a bottomless pit of mud. Right in to the frame!

Try as we may, we could not get it out with a super winch, high lift jack, boards, chains, etc. It was slowly sinking deeper. No one else would come for fear of getting their own rig stuck, and we well understood.

But when Jacksons knew of our predicament, they gave my son a call; it wasn’t but a few minutes and they were on the road. Within a short time the truck was free and we were on our way home. These folks are not only willing to tackle the tough ones, they really know what they are doing!
