Festival planned

The chamber of commerce has added one new twist and dropped one idea for its Sept.14, Harvest Festival at North Dam Park.

The added twist is the Rotary Club will have a public BBQ for the celebration, featuring burgers and hotdogs. Dropped was a plan to have a nationally certified BBQ cook off. That’s still a possibility for the 2014 Harvest Festival.

Chamber of commerce plans still are slanted toward the family with a host of games and activity that is geared for people of all ages.

Like pets?

Then you’ll have fun at the festival. There will be a pet costume show, limited to only a pet owner’s imagination. Add to that a petting zoo, with animals being added right up to festival time.

There are hay rides for families. And a community-wide yard sale. Local people will be encouraged to bring items and set up for a grand yard sale, right in the park.

It’s time to dust off those apple and berry pie recipes. The chamber event will feature a pie baking contest with appropriate prizes.

And for adults, the chamber plans to sponsor a beer tent, with proceeds going to support future events.

Chamber Manager Peggy Nevismal said that additional events will be added as plans are completed.
