The Zion Lutheran Church will be holding a yard sale June 15th in order to help raise money to purchase mosquito bed nets for children in Africa. After listening to stories from people who had visited Africa telling us how many children are dying from malaria, and how something as simple as an insecticide-treated bed net for $10 can save the lives of these young children just seemed like something we needed to try to help with.

Malaria kills more than a million people worldwide each year—90 percent of them in Africa; 70 percent children under the age of five. Children can be protected by highly effective insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs). When the malaria efforts started several years ago, a child died every 30 seconds. Now it is one child every 60 seconds. How fast can we get that down to one child every 2 or 3 or 5 minutes just with $10 malaria nets to keep them from being infected?

If you have articles that you would like to donate for this yard sale you can call me at 633-8025.
