The city council in Electric City voted last week to support Grant County’s Economic Development program with a donation of $497.50. The city is continuing its policy of supporting the work the group does to bring business and industry to the county.

Lake Roosevelt seniors have completed 7,745 hours of community service during their four-year time at the school, Principal Brad Wilson reported in the school’s “The LR Advantage,” which was shared with the school board at its last meeting.

The coordinator of the Colville Tribal Court’s public defense program has accepted a position heading up such a program for Thurston County.

“Too bad it’s too far to commute,” commented Daryl Rodriguez on the new position. His wife, Lisa, a second-grade teacher at Center Elementary, will join him in Olympia at the conclusion of her contract year, he said.

The position at the county seat of the state’s capitol, can be an influential one. Thurston County Superior Court cases often lead the state in legal matters.

As of March 18, driver knowledge and skills tests will no longer be offered at the state Department of Licensing’s Coulee Dam office, the DOL, announced Friday.

The service will also be discontinued in Forks, Port Townsend, Hoquiam, Ilwaco, Shelton, Goldendale, Oroville, Republic, Clarkston, and Colville.

Previously scheduled drive tests will be honored in these offices. The Department of Licensing will continue to offer tests in areas that don’t have driver training schools nearby that offer testing.

It’s the final phase of implementing House Bill 1635, which gives the DOL authority to contract with private driver training schools, school districts and motorcycle training schools to conduct some knowledge and skills tests. The bill was passed in an effort to reduce wait times in licensing service offices.

The question of adding final license testing to the driver training program at Lake Roosevelt High School has not yet been addressed.
