Imagine this. You come home from work late at night; you go out to the garage to feed the cats like you always do. Cats are acting kind of skittish as you move to the garage. Then you find out why, a juvenile cougar with a mouthful of porcupine quills is waiting for his meal too. That’s what local hot rodder Steve Knighten found a few weeks ago. His cats are still afraid to go to the garage.

I have also heard from other locals of seeing large coyotes, packs of dogs, and cougars all in town. Hunting our local cats and dogs at night, they are also following the deer in as they sneak in looking for grass and other chow. So keep your pets in at night. I also heard that an eagle picked off a local couple’s chicken. So the big birds are getting a little hungry too.

A large group of local wrestlers are headed to the Tacoma Dome this weekend. Lake Roosevelt, Almira-Coulee-Hartline and Wilbur are all sending wrestlers, and all three have a chance to bring home some hardware. Good luck to you all. Lake Roosevelt will be leaving town at 9:30 Thursday morning; I challenge you all to line the streets as they head out and give them a proper send off. They have a good chance of bringing home three individual championships and a team championship. So show your support. Thanks to Steve Hood and Lee Largent for their dedication to local wrestling and our kids.

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow. Yep, I said tomorrow. So there is still time to go to a local business and pick up a gift. There are lot of specials and sales in the local businesses. The Wizard in the Grove says he will be looking forward to the last minute fellas that come in with sweat on their brow looking to find some flowers to keep them out of the dog house. If you show up with a piece of gossip, it always makes your roses look a little better. That’s what John says, anyway. On a personnel note: I love you honey, Happy Valentine’s Day. (Blowing ya a kiss right now.)

Well the old Ground Hog in Pennsylvania says that winter is just about over. Thank goodness. I am ready for spring. The cold and fog has made the area seem a little too gloomy this year. Looking forward to sunshine, warm weather and birds. Yep, time to go birding again. I am excited.

If you see a member of the Ridge Riders Association, congratulate them and give them a pat on the back. The Colorama Rodeo was just about dead a few years ago and that would have really hurt our celebration. But with hard work and dedication they resurrected it and it was named Rodeo of the Year in the state. They also won Business of the Year at the chamber of commerce banquet. Well deserved. Oh yeah, some guy named Kohout won something too. But he doesn’t want a pat on the back, and whatever you do, don’t touch his hat.
