Ten Years Ago

Several of the decades-old circuit breakers for water pumps and generators in Grand Coulee Dam will be replaced at a cost of millions over the next two or more years. The Bureau of Reclamation awarded Alburquerque, New Mexico based Gardner Zemke Company a $9.7 million contract on Nov. 20.

The Washington State Silver Glove boxing championship will take place in Coulee Dam next week.

AFTER HOURS - Chamber of Commerce members join Coulee Hardware hosts in an after-hours party the store hosted Thursday night.

Twenty Years Ago

Local contributions to a fund that would allow KPBX Public Radio to construct a translator tower in the Grand Coulee Dam area were at $46 as of Tuesday, according to station manager Dick Kunkel.

Dann, the newest member of the Grant County Sheriff’s Department K-9 team, has been assigned to Deputy Ron Renken of Electric City.

Loose dogs in Nespelem will lose their freedom after a new dog pound is opened in December.

Water storage in Lake Roosevelt from now until next spring will look much like it did a year ago - that is unless there’s a significant shift in the weather pattern.

New businesses opening in the area include Pacific Pride in Grand Coulee and Lakeshore Gifts in Electric City.

Thirty Years Ago

New physical therapist at Coulee Community Hospital is Wes McWhorter who represents Western Physical Therapists Inc.

Gary J. Spangelo has been named Chief of the Construction Division of the Bureau of Reclamation Grand Coulee Project.

Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Downing of Electric City proudly announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Debra Ann to Robert Allen Zeiler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Zeiler Jr. of Odessa.

Forty Years Ago

An Elmer City student and a Coulee Dam student at Western Washington State College have been admitted to the WESC professional education program. They are Aleta C. Rice and Neletta Warnecke.

The Grand Coulee Dam Lions Club this week announced they will have space available for signatures on two huge Christmas Cards on display in Grand Coulee and Coulee Dam.

Fifty Years Ago

Frank Sanford Jr., Dave Rawe, Perry Brooks and Evan Jensen returned from their elk hunting trip on Thursday. Ted R. Richard and Ted C. Rice all spent part of the week elk hunting in the Yakima area.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Carlson of Koontzville will show slides of their trip into the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming at a meeting of the Wilbur Photo Club Monday.

Sixty Years Ago

Mrs. Donald Leston of Grand Coulee, Mrs. Clyde Keefer Jr. and Mrs. J.E. Parmenter of Coulee Dam will attend the state board meeting of the Washington Congress of Parents and Teachers at Tacoma.

In accordance with the recommendation of the advisory council, the Bureau of Reclamation had announced that it will remove the 17 family-type Kit trailers as they become vacant.

Those making the honor roll at Grand Coulee High School included - Irene Gerglin, Allan Hansen and Maureen Siebold. High honors went to Margaret Ziegler, Dennis Short, Patsy Ludolph, Kay Loepp, Gertrude Barrett, Mary High, Mae Morey, Don Cole, Eileen Kurth, Ivetta Morgan and Ozzie Rose.
