    LR Football opened their 2014 season Friday night at home against the 0-1 Tonasket Tigers, as some Raiders had to step up to fill starting roles because of ineligibility or injuries. "I thought we were fearless and competed extremely hard out there," Head Coach Steve Files said. "Great effort by our players."   • Lady Raiders struggle in opening tourney

    Lady Raider Volleyball travelled to Davenport Sept. 6, for the season opening tourney. Only 13 Lady Raiders (seven varsity, six JV) were practice eligible to partake in the tournament. The small numbers hurt the Lady Raiders in matches where the opponents were able to sub out players but LR was not. LR lost to Omak, Almira/Coulee-Hartline, and Davenport in two-game sets.     A sports information and workshop night is planned for Lake Roosevelt High School athletes from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Grand Coulee Dam Middle School gym. There will be an update on sports rules, a review of paperwork needed, and fall sports schedules for high school volleyball, cross country, and football, and middle school volleyball and football.     The Coyote Open Golf Tournament is coming up this weekend at the Banks Lake Golf Course. The tournament will be featured July 11-13, with Friday’s play a practice round at half price for participants. Saturday’s tee times at 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Sunday’s tee times have a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Handicap allowances for men is 24, for women, 32, and in the senior division, 60, with no exceptions.     The first Raider Nation Youth basketball camp will be held at the Lake Roosevelt High School gym, July 7-10. The camp will be run by Raider boys’ head basketball Coach Matt Simpson and his assistants. The basketball camp will be for third to eighth grade boys and girls. Simpson said grades 3-5 will meet at the gym from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. daily.     Octavio Alejandre and Chyenne Kelly-Marconi both placed for the Raiders at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association State 2B Track and Field meet in Cheney last week. At the meet, held at Eastern Washington University, Octavio Alejandre excelled for LR in the shot put. In the prelims, Alejandre had thrown only 43 feet, 5.5 inches, far short of his personal record of 46 feet-plus, and shorter still from the 48-foot goal he had set for himself at state.     Five Lake Roosevelt Raider baseball players have been named to the Central Washington 2B North All-League teams. Two were members of the 2013 All-League teams. Devan Black was named to the First Team All CWL 2B North. Last season Black was named to the Second Team.     Three Lady Raider softball players have been named to the Central Washington 2B North All-League squads for the 2014 season. Lake Roosevelt freshman Tristen Adolph was named to the First Team CWL 2B North because of her pitching and base running ability.     Raider Tennis competed in District 6 Tournament at Cashmere last week, where their season came to an end.     Raider golf came up short at the the District 5-6 Golf Tournament at Lake Chelan Golf Course May 20, so no Raider golfer will advance to the state tournament this season.
