Lockdown was a precaution

Lake Roosevelt Schools were secured in a lockdown Monday when a suspicious figure was seen around the schools.

“We called the Coulee Dam authorities, secured the building, and stayed in secured status until the authorities gave us the all-clear that the potential threat had been mediated,” an official statement from the school read. “We erred on the side of safety, staff followed procedures and protocol to protect our students, and everything went well.”

A school worker told The Star that a suspicious man carrying something with him had been walking around the school. He then climbed the sandhill, and ran back down where police were waiting for him, spoke to him, and gave him a warning.

No further information was yet available on who the man was, or what he was carrying with him.

Crash sent one to hospital

An early morning two-car crash seven miles east of Grand Coulee on SR-174 sent one driver to Coulee Medical Center Monday. No memo on the incident was issued by the Washington State Patrol, but Public Information Officer Jeff Sevigney confirmed the crash had happened about 7 a.m. No other information was available.

Coach hired

Joe Tynan was awarded a supplemental contract as assistant junior high wrestling coach at Lake Roosevelt Schools at the Grand Coulee Dam School District board meeting Monday night.
