A car fire in Coulee Dam and a burning house in Grand Coulee kept local firefighters busy this week.

Very early Monday, Grand Coulee and Electric City volunteers were dispatched to a house fire on Roosevelt Drive in Grand Coulee.

A police officer arrived first and made sure the occupants were outside and OK.

Firefighters said they found the home filled with smoke and a storage room in the basement filled with smoke and smoldering fire, which they extinguished.

"The home sustained smoke damage throughout," they posted on the Grand Coulee Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook page. "Luckily no one was hurt."

After clearing smoke from the house, firefighters left the scene about 3:30 a.m.

"Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors did operate to warn the occupants," the post states. "Good Reminder to check your detectors and to have and practice an escape plan."

On Thursday night, firefighters responded to a car on fire right next to the gas station in Coulee Dam, on the street on Lincoln Avenue. They doused the car quickly, but flames came from the engine area. The car had an out-of-area registration.
