The Raider wrestlers hosted a dual tournament and then went to the Okanogan Invite this past week.

The Raiders hosted a dual tournament joined by Kittitas, Wilbur-Creston-Keller, and Omak at Lake Roosevelt High School Friday.

"I thought the double dual went well," Head Coach Billy Monroe said. "I prefer the dual format over a mix and match because it makes it much more exciting for the teams involved. Kids can help the team, even if they lose, by not getting pinned and saving team points. It worked out well having Wilbur-Creston-Keller show up to fill in holes in lineups so that there were very few forfeits and kids got to wrestle matches."

"I was impressed with the performance by Trevon Johnson," Monroe continued. "As a senior it was his last-ever home wrestling match and he pinned both opponents. Joseph Tynan also wrestled well, taking the Omak wrestler Leighton Jensen to double overtime and losing by one."

Further results from the dual were unavailable at deadline time.

The next day in Okanogan, the Raiders competed in a tournament where Raider placers were Tynan, who took second at 220 weight class; and Johnson, who took third, also at 220.

The Raiders are scheduled to wrestle in the district tournament Saturday, Feb. 8, in Tonasket starting at 10 a.m.

"We have a really good chance to send a few kids to state this year," Monroe said about the postseason.
