Raider wrestlers reign at Powerhouse, Brawl

The Raiders hosted their annual Powerhouse Tournament in Coulee Dam on Friday, winning the tournament as a team and producing a handful of wrestling champions, champions who also dominated at the Banks Lake Brawl in Coulee City on Saturday.

At the Powerhouse Tournament Jan. 3, the Raiders won out of 10 teams with 187 team points, followed by Tonasket, which earned 139.5 points.

The next day, the Raiders travelled to the other end of Banks Lake in Coulee City where they took part in the Banks Lake Brawl, winning as a team there, as well, with 168.5 team points, beating Davenport by 10.

"I thought it was a really good weekend for LR wrestling," Head Coach Billy Monroe said. "We won lots of matches and had a ton of kids in the finals. Colton Jackson (at 113 pounds), Robert Thomas (120), Myka Boyd (195) and Trevon Johnson (220) were champions at both tournaments."

At the Powerhouse, Sergio Galicia also took first, wrestling in the 182-pound weight class; Teyton Flores took first at 126; Robert Thomas took second at 120; C.J. Arcasa took second at 126; Landon Krohn placed second at 145; Tyler Palmer placed second at 170; and Kaiden Palmer placed third at 170.

Additional placers at the Banks Lake Brawl were Flores, who took second at 126; Bosten Hevener, who took fourth in the 132B bracket; Krohn, who took second at 145; Kaiden Palmer, who took third at 160; Galicia, who took second at 182; and Joey Tynan, who placed fourth at 285.

The Raiders' next event is on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Cascade High School in Leavenworth at 10 a.m.

"We are on the home stretch of the season with a few more tournaments to go," Monroe said. "It's been an exciting season, and I'm looking forward to seeing how post season goes."
