I have a few dreams for Christmas this year, and I thought it only fair to share with you all. I know this list may step on some toes, but I hope we can take this all in good fun and fair taste. The taste of a fresh pecan pie and the toes of a brand-new pair of work boots. Here we go.

My first dream is a dream Super Bowl prediction. First, I will make most of you happy and say the Seahawks will represent the NFC in the big game. In the AFC, I pick Kansas City Chiefs. I must be honest; I have not watched much football for the past few years because of the national anthem debate, but I do check the scores, and I did watch the AFC Championship game last year when my heart broke as the Patriots pulled out their playoff magic again. But this year is the Chiefs’ year. I think the Chiefs win the Superbowl in overtime over the Seahawks in one of the best championship games ever. (I will probably get hate mail and dirty looks in town over this, but I have been a KC fan for a long, long time)

My next dream stays in the sporting arena. As we all know, Chris Peterson has resigned as head coach of the Huskies. Leach is still celebrating the announcement. But my dream is that this will spark an even bigger step in UW history. It is said that Peterson will stay in UW athletics, and hopefully he will bring the big-game, step-up philosophy to the entire school. Do I smell national championships in not only football but volleyball, track, golf, baseball, softball and all other UW sports as Peterson spreads the winning atmosphere across the entire school? This time next year we will see purple and gold competing at a whole new level. (More hate mail and dirty looks, I know.)

Politics. I will skip this because it is the subject you are never supposed to bring up during the holiday gatherings. But I will say this: We are responsible as individuals. Responsible to educate ourselves on the happenings in local government, in Olympia and in D.C., and act accordingly. So, my dream is that we become a people who factcheck things before we go off the deep end on a tangent. Look into the information and where we are getting the information. We must not be dictated to by a political party, a news source or a social media platform. We must dig in ourselves as our own investigative reporters and get to the facts if we can even find them in this diluted time in media.

A dream of traditions. I dream that we get back to the basics. There was a time when traditions meant something. We did not just do things because we always did them this way. We did things because there was a meaning behind them. Sometimes traditions become part of a program or even can be considered religious. I dream that we know why we do the things we do on a day-to-day basis. Ask the question why. This can be a holiday tradition, a church tradition, a community tradition or a simple daily thing we do. Make the changes that need to be made if you cannot give an adequate answer or if no one can give you one. But don’t just change because you want to make a change. Make sure you need the change for the betterment of all.

I also dream some real big dreams. If I went into too much detail, I am sure this column would not be printed. So, let me put it to you simply. I pray that everyone who reads this will be touched in a big-time way this year. I pray that your health will improve, your finances will grow, you will get your dream job, your relationships will be repaired and be better than ever. I pray that addictions will cease, lying will stop, fear will become a thing of the past and strength will come to you physically and mentally. I pray that everything you ever wanted and dream about comes to you and you are blessed. Not because of me and my prayer but because you believe in something bigger than me.

Merry Christmas to you and yours this year, and may 2020 be the breakthrough year in your life.
