Clarification

Electric City mayoral candidate and Councilmember Aaron Derr said after a story on his candidacy that the council had indeed had survey results concerning auxiliary buildings prior to a vote, not afterward. There was a miscommunication on the topic.

No arrests yet in homicide

The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the killiing of a person whose body was found June 3, in the trunk of a car that burned in Aeneas Valley Fire District 16. The body was not identifiable when firefighters discovered it, but an autopsy subsequently identified the victim only as female, Sheriff Tony Hawley said in a release Sept. 19.

DNA evidence was sent the Washington State Patrol, and the county coroner has now issued a death certificate for Angela M. Bowers, who was listed as missing June 17.

“There have been no arrests related to the homicide investigation as detectives are continuing to gather information,” the sheriff’s office release stated. “Contact the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office should you have any information which may help bring this investigation to a conclusion.”


LR’s Cultural Awareness Gathering on Thursday

Lake Roosevelt Schools will be hosting a Cultural Awareness Gathering on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the football field, weather pending.

Students will listen to special speakers and be able to visit various educational booths. Following lunch, there will be a powwow and stick game tournament.

Ice Age Park groundbreaking set for Monday

A groundbreaking ceremony on Electric City’s first municipal park, called the Ice Age Park, will take place on Monday, Sept. 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the park’s future location behind the fire station on McNett Avenue. The event will include Ice Age games for kids, hot chocolate and other refreshments, and popcorn provided by The Popcorn Shoppe. The park could be completed as early as summer 2020, according to a previous estimate from SPVV Landscape architects who designed the park.
