Special filing period set for unfilled public offices

Several local offices up for election with no one running have necessitated a special filing period.

The special filing period has been set in Okanogan and Grant counties for Aug. 21-23.

A four-year position for a Coulee Dam Town Council member is open, as is a four-year term on the Elmer City Council.

But in Nespelem, no one has filed for a two-year mayoral term or for five council positions —three four-year terms and two two-year terms.

A four-year school director position in the Grand Coulee Dam School District is still open. And a four-year commissioner position in the Coulee Area Park and Recreation District is still vacant.

Residents of Douglas or Lincoln counties could also file for the school district or parks positions by contacting Grant or Okanogan counties. Coulee Dam residents in Douglas County could contact Okanogan County to run for the open council position in that town.

Those interested in running for these positions can contact the Okanogan County Auditor’s Office at 509-422-7240 or go to vote.wa.gov/okanogan, or contact the Grant County elections office at 509-754-2011.
